{"id":67,"date":"2015-10-02T00:55:32","date_gmt":"2015-10-02T00:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tantradiva.com\/?p=67"},"modified":"2019-06-04T08:39:18","modified_gmt":"2019-06-04T08:39:18","slug":"so-youre-a-tantrik-eh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tantradiva.com\/index.php\/2015\/10\/02\/so-youre-a-tantrik-eh\/","title":{"rendered":"So you\u2019re a Tantrik, eh?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I tell most people that I am a Tantrik, they have an amused curiosity. \u00a0Unless they\u2019re men: \u00a0Then they think they have a really good chance of getting laid. \u00a0Or, that I&#8217;m trying to proposition them.<\/p>\n<p>All of these approaches suffer from flawed assumptions. \u00a0They stem from the way in which Tantra has been popularized in the West. \u00a0It has been regarded as a fuck-fest and a religion based on sex.\u00a0 \u00a0I think Western cultures appropriated this version of Tantra:<\/p>\n<p>1) Because they already had enough of their own religion, and didn\u2019t need any more of it.<\/p>\n<p>2) Their religion didn\u2019t have any sex in it, so they thought \u201cGroovy man! \u00a0Let&#8217;s get it onnnnn!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This deduction has not been scientifically tested or proven of course, but I can write whatever I want since it is my blog. \u00a0Seriously, I have a major issue with the way in which Tantra has been exoticized, and reduced to a painfully constricted point of view. \u00a0Something that encompasses all of life, should not simply denote human beings shagging. \u00a0The sacred, loving and pleasurable expression of consenting, adult, human sexuality, is but one element of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tantradiva.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/4779303699_79638890c2_o.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74\" src=\"https:\/\/tantradiva.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/4779303699_79638890c2_o.jpg\" alt=\"4779303699_79638890c2_o\" width=\"1200\" height=\"789\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tantra according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150221035511\/http:\/hinduism.about.com\/od\/tantra\/a\/what_is_tantra.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shri Aghorinath ji<\/a>\u00a0is a word derived from the combination of two words: \u201d tattva\u201d and \u201cmantra\u201d. \u201cTattva\u201d means the science of cosmic principles. \u00a0 \u201cMantra\u201d refers to the science of mystic sound and vibrations. \u00a0Tantra then, according to Shri Aghorinath ji \u201c\u2026 is the application of cosmic sciences with a view to attain spiritual ascendancy.\u201d \u00a0<strong>In essence, it means connecting with our source of life and connecting with ourselves.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0You may call the source \u201cGod.\u201d \u00a0I choose not to, simply because the concept of God has become riddled with differing connotations over the millennia. \u00a0I\u2019ll simply use the term \u201csource\u201d from here on in, and will posit that I do not believe it is static at all.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists have theorized that life began with an explosion of light and energy, popularly known as the big bang. \u00a0Whether or not you believe this is irrelevant. \u00a0Albert Einstein proved that\u00a0\u00a0<em>E<\/em>\u00a0=\u00a0<em>mc<\/em>2. \u00a0This means that energy is equal to mass multiplied by the speed of light squared. \u00a0Mass is the amount of matter that forms an object. \u00a0Matter is anything which can be perceived by the senses. \u00a0How is this relevant to this topic? \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150221035511\/http:\/www.aip.org\/history\/einstein\/voice1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">According to Einstein<\/a>,\u00a0<em>\u201cIt followed from the special theory of relativity that mass and energy are both but different manifestations of the same thing -a somewhat unfamiliar conception for the average mind\u2026 (it)\u00a0showed that very small amounts of mass may be converted into a very large amount of energy and vice versa.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Einstein\u2019s theory was subsequently proven by other experiments. \u00a0Last year, scientists from Harvard and MIT\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150221035511\/http:\/phys.org\/news\/2013-09-scientists-never-before-seen.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>created matter using light<\/strong><\/a>.<em>\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>This just goes to show that there is an irrefutable connection between light and energy\/matter. \u00a0Light affects energy\/matter.<\/p>\n<p>These scientific principles can be compared to the foundations of tantra: \u00a0A belief in consciousness and energy, as expressed through the personifications of Shiva and Shakti. \u00a0Shiva and Shakti are the god and goddess which signify the principles of the universe. \u00a0For creation, preservation, destruction and re-creation to occur, there must be light (consciousness) and energy\/matter. \u00a0Science does not really explain consciousness or the causes of consciousness. \u00a0However, we cannot deny that it exists. \u00a0This is where the debate usually arises. \u00a0Is there an underlying consciousness which controls everything? \u00a0(The traditional and popular interpretation of God) \u00a0Or, is there simply a source of \u00a0knowledge and intelligence,<strong>\u00a0<em>pure consciousness if you will<\/em><\/strong>, which is not separate from energy and at the core of our existence?
